The categories

At this early stage in the formation of this Weblog, I have created a few simple categories for the posts already written and for those yet to come.

Possibly there will be additional categories in the future, or even some rearrangement of existing categories. But for now, most posts are simply being designated as pop/rock or country music related, or both. These two genres are the ones I have listened to for most of my life. These songs—primarily from the decades of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s—up to the present constitute the soundtrack of my life, but I am not restricted to them, as you will see.

You may also have noticed some “stray” categories: “Lists” and “Lyrics” in particular. They exist to facilitate the creation of this site: DeeJaysMusicMemories.com and my upcoming site: DeeJaysRecords.com.

Lists
While building these two Web sites I will, at first, focus mainly on three lists of songs:

  1. The 150 tracks on the TimeLife “Malt Shop Memories” cd collection. (I chose it because it is a popular collection of oldies that is frequently presented on TV informercials and all over the Web.)
  2. The #1 singles of the Rock era as described in the Billboard Book of No. 1 Hits
  3. The #1 songs from the country music singles charts. My source for this list is the Billboard Book of #1 Country Hits

The chart lists on this site begin at the starting points assigned by these sources, and will be added to as I progress or as I highlight additional songs.

I expect to digress often from these lists to look at tracks that didn’t top the charts. I am using these lists simply as guides.

Lyrics
Yes, I know that there are zillions of lyrics sites out there. But I find it convenient—as I design and implement the Dee Jay’s Records site—to have a single repository for lyrics to refer readers to.

So, I hope that explains my categories for the time being. (At least until I see a need to change them.)
