Fathers and Daughters with #1 singles
Love Letters In The Sand   •   You Light Up My Life   •   Somethin’ Stupid

I think that I am one of the luckiest men on earth because I am the father of daughters. (You know what they say: “…My daughter’s my daughter…”, well, more about that in a minute.)

In the past, a couple of lucky dads shared the honor of having songs in the number 1 spot on the Billboard singles charts with their daughters.

Here are some number one pop oldie hits from some fathers and their daughters: Pat Boone, Debby Boone, and Frank & Nancy Sinatra.

Love Letters
in the Sand

Love Letters in the Sand

You made a vow that you would ever be true.
But somehow that vow meant nothing to you.

On a day like today,
we passed the time away
writing love letters in the sand.

You Light Up My Life

You light up my life.
You give me hope to carry on.
You light up my days,
and fill my nights with song.

So many nights I’d sit by my window,
waiting for someone to sing me his song.
So many dreams I kept deep inside me,
alone in the dark,
but now you’ve come along.

Somethin’ Stupid

Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra

Frank Sinatra  and   Nancy Sinatra

And then I go and spoil it all
by saying something stupid like,
“I love you.”

I can see it in your eyes
that you despise the same old lies
you heard the night before.
And though it’s just a line to you,
for me it’s true,
and never seemed so right before.

LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND Lyrics
Pat Boone
(Listen to “Love Letters in the Sand” by Pat Boone.)

On a day like today
we passed the time away
writing love letters in the sand.

How you laughed when I cried
each time I saw the tide
take our love letters from the sand.

You made a vow that you would ever be true.
But somehow that vow meant nothing to you.

Now my broken heart aches
with every wave that breaks
over love letters in the sand.

instrumental interlude

Now my broken heart aches
with every wave that breaks
over love letters in the sand.

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE Lyrics
Debby Boone
(Listen to “You Light Up My Life” by Debby Boone.)

So many nights I’d sit by my window,
waiting for someone to sing me his song.
So many dreams I kept deep inside me,
alone in the dark,
but now you’ve come along.

And you light up my life.
You give me hope to carry on.
You light up my days,
and fill my nights with song.

Rollin’ at sea, adrift on the water,
could it be finally I’m turning for home?
Finally, a chance to say,
“Hey, I love you.”
Never again to be all alone.

And you light up my life.
You give me hope to carry on.
You light up my days,
and fill my nights with song.

‘Cause you …
You light up my life.
You give me hope to carry on.
You light up my days,
and fill my nights with song.

It can’t be wrong
when it feels so right.
‘Cause you …
You light up my life.

SOMETHIN’ STUPID Lyrics
Nancy Sinatra and Frank Sinatra
(Listen to “Somethin’ Stupid” by Nancy Sinatra and Frank Sinatra.)

I know I stand in line
until you think you have the time
to spend an evening with me.
And if we go someplace to dance
I know that there’s a chance
you won’t be leaving with me.

And afterwards,
we drop into a quiet little place
and have a drink or two.

And then I go and spoil it all
by saying something stupid like, “I love you.”

I can see it in your eyes
that you despise the same old lies
you heard the night before.
And though it’s just a line to you,
for me it’s true,
and never seemed so right before.

I practice every day
to find some clever lines to say
to make the meaning come true.
But then I think I’ll wait
until the evening gets late
and I’m alone with you.

The time is right.
Your perfume fills my head.
The stars get red, and oh the nights so blue.

And then I go and spoil it all
by saying something stupid like, “I love you.”

instrumental interlude

The time is right.
Your perfume fills my head.
The stars get red, and oh the nights so blue.

And then I go and spoil it all
by saying something stupid like, “I love you.”
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
….[Fade]
